Enable location sharing
Loc8ID uses your device location to drop a pin exactly where you are. If the map can’t find you, it’s almost always one of two settings — your browser’s permission for this site, or your device’s system location. Here’s how to check both.
Tip: after changing any setting below, return to Loc8ID and press Use my location again. Some browsers need a page reload before a newly-granted permission takes effect.
Step 1
In your browser
Use this when you were asked to allow location and chose Block, or the site shows a “blocked” message.
Chrome (desktop)
- Click the tune / site-info icon on the left of the address bar (a slider or padlock icon).
- Find Location and set it to Allow.
- Reload the page and press Use my location again.
Microsoft Edge (desktop)
- Click the padlock / site-info icon on the left of the address bar.
- Open Permissions for this site and set Location to Allow.
- Reload the page and try again.
Firefox (desktop)
- Click the padlock icon on the left of the address bar.
- If Location is blocked, click the × next to “Blocked” to clear it.
- Reload the page — Firefox will ask again — and choose Allow.
Safari (macOS)
- In the menu bar, open Safari › Settings › Websites › Location.
- Find loc8id.com in the list and set it to Allow.
- Make sure Safari is also allowed under macOS Location Services (Step 2 below).
Safari (iPhone & iPad)
- Tap the aA icon in the address bar, then Website Settings.
- Set Location to Allow.
- If it’s still blocked, check your device Location Services (Step 2 below).
Chrome (Android)
- Tap the padlock / tune icon to the left of the address bar, then Permissions.
- Set Location to Allow.
- Reload the page and try again.
Step 2
On your device
Use this when you allowed the site but still see “location unavailable” — usually the operating system’s location is turned off for the whole browser.
macOS
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.
- Turn Location Services on, then enable your browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) in the list.
Windows
- Open Settings › Privacy & security › Location.
- Turn on Location services and Let apps access your location, and allow desktop apps.
iPhone & iPad
- Open Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services and turn it on.
- Scroll to your browser (Safari / Chrome) and set it to While Using the App.
Android
- Open Settings › Location and turn Use location on.
- Under App permissions, allow location for your browser (Chrome, etc.).
Still can’t share your location?
You don’t need location at all — you can always search for a place or drop the pin on the map by hand on the Create page. If something still isn’t working, get in touch and we’ll help.
